| A Superficial reading of R.B
Bhaskaran’s Drawings, Paintings and
graphic - prints might lead one to define
them as being pictographically realistic.
On analytical scrutiny however, the figurative
idiom of this Madras artist yields several
technical possibilities. These, in turn give
rise to polemical queries, as will be substantiated
subsequently. |

| CAT |
| RBB loves CAT, and he had
proved it through is paintings. The major
unspoken character of his paintings being
Cat, the artist had proved that the color,
theme and the space used speaks the mentality
and attitude of the artist.
His Cat Theme paintings had reached global
recognition. Most of his paintings represent
his moods and the persons viewing the paintings
are attracted towards the paintings for
its simplicity and the depth.
The cat, a familiar animal, becomes mysteriously
poetic; no longer merely cuddly or vain,
it seems to exude power and variety; thy
rhythms of brushwork express a vital energy,
rendering taut muscular movement in creature
at rest. An extraordinary quality of coiled
tension and movement lie in the clear light
colors and sharp designs of R.B. Bhaskaran’s
cat, his dark cat leap at us from brilliant
walls, his colored ones turn strong disdainful
backs, peering backwards or out of canvas
sideways at things that lie outside it.
